City Faces in Different Places

By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on December 04, 2022 from City Faces via Connect-Bridgeport.com

This week's Bridgeport City Face is Marteney Hanson. Meet her and her family here!

Tell me about you and your family (and pets!) and how long you've lived in Bridgeport.

My name is Marteney Hanson and I am happily married to my college sweetheart, Wes Hanson. Together we have a 4-year-old son, Holton, and a 3-year-old daughter, Montani. We have one cat and three dogs: two harlequin Great Danes, (one you may have recently seen on WDTV!), and a blue heeler named Loki.  I’m the oldest of five daughters, two are former BHS grads, Bronlie & Bria Jacobs, and my youngest sister Robbi is a junior at Bridgeport High School. While I personally didn’t attend BHS, we’ve lived in the area all of my life and it’s just always been home to me. Our entire life is here. We didn’t make it “official” until we moved back from Texas in 2019, though.

My husband and I own North Central Building Solutions, a roofing company here in Bridgeport right on Lodgeville Road. You can also spot our billboards by The Bridge Sports Complex and on I-79 N (Let’s Go Mountaineers!) We do roofing, gutters, siding, soffit/fascia, decks and more, but roofing is what we are known for. We’ve replaced many roofs in Bridgeport, some of our most notable include the iconic Kindermusik house, Comfort Inn & Suites, The Social Tap, etc. We started this business ourselves with $0, no help from any family or investors, and have turned it into a multi-million dollar operation and one of the very top roofing companies in the state. We’ve won several awards, one being GAF certified, which is only given to 5 percent of roofing contractors in North America!

If you have a significant other, tell us how you met.
My husband and I are college sweethearts and met at Glenville State University as we were both athletes there. I  ran track and he played football so he would see me running around while he was practicing. I can still remember the exact day he came up to me and introduced himself and asked me my name. I said “Marteney” and he goes “Like, a grey goose martini”? And I embarrassingly didn’t know what he meant (I do now??) but I just agreed and we’ve been together ever since.

Why do you like it here?
What is there not to LOVE about Bridgeport? I’m extremely passionate about our town and community and everything in it. There’s just something SO incredibly special about this town that you can’t find anywhere else. Trust me, I’ve looked. I have such a deep sense of belonging here. But you know what makes Bridgeport, BRIDGEPORT? The people. Everyone I’ve ever met here has always been so kind and helpful. Bridgeport people are proud of their town and always striving for their best and I think it really shows in, our schools, businesses, everything.

What's your favorite event here in our city?
I know Light Up Night is a common favorite for everybody and while it IS AMAZING, I think I love National Night Out the most. My cousin, Austen Zorick, and the rest of the Bridgeport P.D. & first responders just do an amazing job at giving back to our community and it’s SO much fun for the kids with all of the bounce houses, fireworks, and vendors.

What about a spot that you frequent?
In summer, we spend almost every day at the Bridgeport Country Club pool! It’s our favorite pool and some of our best memories are there with friends. We all look out for each other’s kids and it’s like a big family there.

Where do you work and what do you do there?
I’m a stay at home mom that also helps out with our business very often. I’ll answer calls, e-mails, direct messages from social media, handle marketing, send leads to our sales representatives, pick up and drop off materials to the job site (yes, even with two toddlers in tow!), etc.

What are some of your favorite pasttimes and hobbies?
If you ask anyone that knows me, they’ll say I’m always doing something or going somewhere. I love to travel and explore new places, see new things, and have adventures even if they are day trips 30 minutes from home. You can make anything or anywhere an adventure!  I am also a new member of the Bridgeport Junior Women's Club.

Do you have any goals - personal or professional - either shortterm or longterm?
Some of my personal goals include growing in Christ, being someone my kids are proud of, being the friend that always shows up for people no matter what, and becoming the healthiest and happiest version of myself. I recently became a founding member at Orangetheory Fitness in Bridgeport and can’t wait until it opens!

Professionally, I’d like to keep growing my social media accounts as my Martessori Tiktok has almost 50,000 followers and I feature our town on there sometimes. I also want to help grow our business by becoming the Marketing Director when the kids start at Johnson Elementary in two years. I previously worked at a high pace tech company in Austin, TX, and want to apply that knowledge here.

Tell us about one of your favorite Bridgeport memories.
I was probably 8 or 9 years old but my mom would drop me off in Bridgeport at my best friend & former BHS grad.Sarah McIntyre’s (Marsh), house! Her mom, Ann, would drive us to gymnastics and we would talk in our own language called “Gibberish”  and we would just laugh and laugh. I loved spending time there with them.

What are your favorite area foods/restaurants?
I LOVE coffee and all of our coffee spots in town. I try to rotate between them all - Winnie’s, Almost Heaven, Stone Tower Brews, Stonewall, Koin. They’re all amazing. My kids love picking out cupcakes from Bonnie Belle’s on Jerry Dove and macarons from My Little Cupcake. We love getting wings from The Social Tap, Oliverio’s, brunch at Cody’s, Shogun, El Rincón, and Mia Margarita’s!

What tunes are on your playlist?
My playlist consists mostly of kid and Kindermusik songs. While we love Ms. Carla Engle, I really miss my rap music!

What about favorite movies or TV shows? Are you streaming anything now or have recently that you recommend?
YELLOWSTONE! I’m not one who usually watches series but 10/10 recommend this one. Kevin Costner is outstanding! I love all Disney movies, Interstellar, The King, all of the Marvel superhero movies!

If you could vacation anywhere in the world, where would you go?
Dubai!

What is one or more of your past favorite vacations?
Taking my kids to Disney for Halloween last year! We went trick or treating around the Magic Kingdom and celebrated my daughter’s birthday in Cinderella’s castle! We loved it so much that we are spending Christmas there this year!

What is an interesting tidbit about you?
I won 4 state championships, 3 in track and field and 1 in volleyball and still hold the record at Glenville State University for the most Heptathlon points scored at 4,255 in 2012.

What do you love best about the holiday season?
The nostalgia of it all. I’m a big kid at heart and it brings me back to childhood— the brilliant, twinkling lights, the familiarity of Christmas songs, the anticipation of gifts, smells of cookies baking, the smiles on everyone’s faces. It gets cold outside but it’s almost as if you can feel the warmth from everyone during the holiday season.

And what are your favorite Christmas tunes?
I’m a huge fan of any and all Christmas music but you can’t beat the classics. My two absolute favorite Christmas songs of all time are Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree and Jingle Bell Rock!

Editor's Note: Marteney is pictured with her kids, her husband, her godfather Sam Olivio at Titletown Taiilgate, and her cousins, The Zorick family, at National Night Out.
