Bridgeport Farmers Market Debuts Indoor Season this Sunday

By Julie Perine on November 08, 2019 via Connect-Bridgeport.com

With summer and outdoor market season in the books, Bridgeport Farmers Market begins its monthly indoor market this Sunday. Between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., shoppers can find 30 vendors inside Bridgeport Conference Center, as well as music, brunch and even a bloody Mary bar.

“We will have a limited amount of seasonal produce, all of our farm-raised meats – lamb, beef, chicken, pork, rabbit and venison – farm-fresh eggs, and a large array of baked goods, West Virginia honey,” said Debbie Workman of Bridgeport Farmers Market.

It’s a good opportunity to stock up on market staples and it’s not too early to start thinking holiday gift purchasing and stocking stuffers. From candles and soap to pottery and wood crafted items, there is much to choose from.

“November and December markets are huge as far as gifts go and we want to remind people that since we are fairly far out from Christmas, some of our artisans do customized work. People can put in orders for a special cutting board with someone’s initials on it or a special piece of pottery,” Workman said. “We also want shoppers to think about putting together their own little gift baskets with different market items, maybe a couple coffee mugs from Jughead Pottery and some Quantum Bean Coffee.”

Market gift certificates – good for winter or summer markets – are also available for purchase at the BFM management tent.

Among the market’s newest vendors are Momma Leah’s Goods – featuring soaps, bath bombs and body products – and Poe’s Run Craft and Provisions offering lamb, pork and chicken, as well as garlic braids and blueberry jams and jellies, among other items.

Market goers can also enjoy the music of guitarist/vocalist John Posey and brunch prepared by the Bridgeport Conference Center culinary staff. Reservations are not necessary, Workman said. In addition to bloody Marys, mimosas and West Virginia craft beer will be served.

While stocking their own kitchens, shoppers can help fulfill food needs of others. The market is holding a food drive to benefit locals through Shepherd’s Corner.

“We hold a Thanksgiving food drive every year,” Workman said. “Just bring a non-perishable food item to the management table and it will all be delivered to Shepherd’s Corner.”

The indoor market will be held at Bridgeport Conference Center the second Sunday of every month, except April – which because of the Easter holiday, will be held the first Sunday of the month. All indoor winter markets will be held from 11 a.m. through 2 p.m.

Looking ahead, Bridgeport Farmers Market will participate in the Dec. 5 Light Up Night in downtown Bridgeport, a fundraiser for the market’s POP (Power of Produce) kids’ club during the first quarter of 2020 and the Fifth Annual Wild and Wonderful Table market fundraiser in the fall.
