Time Travel: Military Gathering on Main Street in 1962 and North View's St. James Church Basketball Team
By Dick Duez on June 21, 2026 from History Blog
Although not 100 percent certain, this photo is believed to be from 1962 and taken just prior to, or just after, a Bridgeport parade on Main Street. The old location of the Bridgeport Dairy Queen is in the background at the time it was located just beside the Handy Shop, which is not visibile in this image. If you have additional information, or information you believe is correct, please add it to the comment section on our social media pages.
At one time, St. James Catholic Church in the North View section of Clarksburg had its own school, as well as its own sports teams. This photo shows a decades-old basketball team and the cheerleaders. If anyone has an idea of the date of the photo or who is pictured, please add it to the comments on our social media pages.
Editor's Note: This ongoing photo feature of pictures from Bridgeport and throughout the Mountain State is part of local historian Richard "Dick" Duez's collection. Duez, the unofficial historian of Bridgeport, would appreciate any scanned photos emailed to him for use here or to include in his ongoing efforts to preserve local history. You can email photos, or let him know how to acquire copies of photos you may have in your possession, to Duez at at dick@duez.ws
