Time Travel: Pee Wee White Cheerleaders from 2000 and National Retail Giant in Clarksburg from 1962

By Dick Duez on April 18, 2021 from History Blog via Connect-Bridgeport.com

Although this submitted image is grainy, it is of the Bridgeport Pee Wee White Exhibition Squad back in 2000 and was coached by Kim Kinkelaar and Wendy Stein. The team had just won a competition in Upshur County. Shown, front row from left, Presley Stein, Meredith Griswien, Heather Carter, and Ellysse Gemondo. Center, from left, Emily Mazzei, Jessica Trickett, Bethany Andrew, Emily Strogen, and Mary Kinkellar. Back row, from left, Jennifer McKitrick, Kaitlin Gates, Addrianna Lindsey, Kerrigan Golden, and Alacya Coleman.
At one time, as this photo from 1962 shows, JCPenny (then listed as J.C. Penney Co.) was located on Main Street in downtown Clarksburg. It opened in this location a few years after the popular Arcade Building was destroyed in a fire. This photo was taken by Bob Nichols.

Editor's Note: This ongoing photo feature of pictures from Bridgeport and throughout the Mountain State is part of local historian Richard "Dick" Duez's collection. Duez, the unofficial historian of Bridgeport, would appreciate any scanned photos emailed to him for use here or to include in his ongoing efforts to preserve local history. You can email photos, or let him know how to acquire copies of photos you may have in your possession, to Duez at dick.do@citynet.net.
