Time Travel: Recalling Bridgeport Bank on Main Street and a One-Room School House in Putnam County

By Dick Duez on November 08, 2020 from History Blog via Connect-Bridgeport.com

Does anyone remember the Bridgeport Bank? This is believed to be the front of a calendar from the bank showing the officers directors and capital of the Bridgeport Bank in 1938. Do you recognize any of the names? The bank was conceived by a group of Bridgeport business men in 1902 and was initially lodged in a small wooden structure on West Main St. In five years a new location and structure was located on the sight of  doctor office of  William Late. the first president of the bank. The structure still stands today.
Students currently are having a unique educational experience, but would consider what was once the norm unique today. This photo is from the community of Redhouse in Putnam County. The 1935 photo shows the one-room education that most students had, as well as how students dressed ruing that era. Notice the math and the cursive being taught on the blackboard.

Editor's Note: This ongoing photo feature of pictures from Bridgeport and throughout the Mountain State is part of local historian Richard "Dick" Duez's collection. Duez, the unofficial historian of Bridgeport, would appreciate any scanned photos emailed to him for use here or to include in his ongoing efforts to preserve local history. You can email photos, or let him know how to acquire copies of photos you may have in your possession, to Duez at dick.do@citynet.net.
