Time Travel: Simpson Elementary School 1909 Scrap and a 1936 Advertisement for the Sam Lopez Store
By Dick Duez on September 13, 2026 from History Blog
Anyone know what this is? This photo is from 12 years ago, in 2014, and shows part of the original heating element in the now demolished section of Simpson Elementary School. Despite its age, new additions, demolition, and upgrades still have the school in service.
Check out this 1936 advertisement for the Sam Lopez Store in North View. And also check out some of the prices. The family ran the store for decades on 14th Street in Clarksburg and some of the homemade items, such as their Italian sausage, is still made by family members. Image courtesy of Franny Lopez.
Editor's Note: This ongoing photo feature of pictures from Bridgeport and throughout the Mountain State is part of local historian Richard "Dick" Duez's collection. Duez, the unofficial historian of Bridgeport, would appreciate any scanned photos emailed to him for use here or to include in his ongoing efforts to preserve local history.
