Another Bridge Replacement Project on Way for Area as Seven-Figure Effort to Start Likely this Summer

For those enjoying infrastructure projects taking place in Harrison County, there is good news. For those who are tired of them, this may not be your cup of tea.
Recently, the West Virginia Division of Highways began advertising for a bridge project in Harrison County. The project is for Hackers Creek Bridge.
According to Jason Nelson, a P.E. with District Four office of the WVDOH, this will be a full replacement. The bridge, which crosses Hackers Creek, cover approximately 108 feet and carries U.S. Route 19. It is between Watters Smith Memorial State Park in Lost Creek and Jane Lew.
“(Along with the replacement,) this project also will realign the approach roadways to improve the degree of curve leading into and out of the bridge,” said Nelson. “There will also be related drainage and paving work for the bridge approaches and side roads, driveways tie-ins.”
As one may expect with a project this size, the cost is also large. Although an engineer’s estimate was not available, Nelson said the project
will be in seven figures.

The project will be let about a month from today – May 19, 2026. The planned starting date is in July of this year. The planned completed date is listed more than a year later in October of 2027.
For those dismayed with the high number of projects causing traffic issues, this may be a little easier to deal with.
“The new bridge will be just downstream of the existing one. There will be no detour since the current bridge will remain in service until the new one can be opened to traffic toward the end of the project,” said Nelson. “There will be the use of temporary signals during the tie in work toward the end of the project, but significant delays are not anticipated.”
