Area Man who was Veteran, Youth Sports Coach, and Church, Community Leader, Warren Swiger, Passes

Warren Lee Swiger, 84, of Clarksburg, passed away at his residence with his loving family by his side on Friday, June 12, 2026. He was born in Bristol on March 5, 1942, the son of the late Lester and Geraldine (Dennison) Swiger.
Warren is survived by his loving wife Sue (Leasure) Swiger, whom he married May 31, 1969.
Also surviving are his son, Jeffrey Warren Swiger, Clarksburg; a sister, Denise (Jenkins) Swiger and husband Don of Beverly Hills, FL; and a l
arge number of nieces, nephews, and many special cousins.

He was also preceded in death by his brother, Wayne R. Swiger.
Warren attended Western Kentucky University before beginning his military commitment, entering the United States Air Force where he completed basic training at Lackland AFB, TX, with specialized technical training at Kessler AFB, MS, as a Non-Morse Code Intercept Operator. A Vietnam Era Veteran, he served in the War Zone and was permanently stationed in the Middle East with the USAF 1141st Land S.E. Special Forces Air Group located near Smyrna, Turkey, finishing his enlistment with the 911th Air Wing, Pittsburgh, PA.
After completing his military commitment, Warren continued his education attaining an Associates Degree from Salem College, and a Bachelors Degree in Business from Fairmont State College.
Completing his education, Warren was hired as a Management Trainee with Fourco Glass, working at Adamston, Rolland, and Jerry Run production sites.
Leaving the glass industry, Warren began working in retail, managing the Heck’s Store in Fairmont, the Rite Aid at Meadowbrook Mall, and the Family Dollar sites in Philippi and Clarksburg, receiving many awards for increased production and employee satisfactions.
Being offered a professional position matching his education, Warren joined Ace Adjustment Services with corporate offices located in Parkersburg, beginning as a Marketing Rep, and later becoming Office Manager. He retired as Vice President of Marketing and Company Operations.
In his younger years, Warren enjoyed hunting with family, playing golf with friends throughout West Virginia, coaching Little League Baseball and Basketball teams that received many trophies. While being a dedicated Mountaineer Fan and Pittsburgh Sports supporter, he became a Civil War History “Buff”, traveling with family and friends throughout the Mid-Atlantic Areas from Gettysburg to Cold Harbour and beyond.
Warren was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars-Meuse Argonne Post 573 of Clarksburg, American Legion Post 13, Clarksburg, and was a Third Degree Knight with Clarksburg Council #872 Knights of Columbus. A member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, he served as an usher for many years.
Warren’s great sense of humor and easy smile will never be forgotten by friends and family, and his pride of his son’s Army Service in Kuwait and Iraq was always shared, especially with his many attempts trying to train “Flash” the family dog to shake hands with strangers and fellow Veterans.
In lieu of flowers, the Swiger Family requests memorial contributions be made to either Immaculate Conception Building Fund or Notre Dame High School Athletic Department.
Friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Avenue, Bridgeport, from 10 a.m. – 12 Noon on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, followed by Catholic Graveside Committal Rites to be held at West Virginia National Cemetery at 1 p.m. Military Funeral Honors will be accorded by the Harrison County Honor Guard and United States Air Force Honor Guard representatives.
