Area Woman who Taught at Multiple Schools for Over 30 Years, Elaine Watson, Passes Away at Age of 88

Elaine Watson, 88, of Fairmont, passed away on Saturday, February 21, 2026 at Pleasant Acres Christian Haven, Fairmont, WV. She was born on September 17, 1937, the daughter of the late Clyde Amos and Georgia Grove Bennett. She was preceded in death by her loving husband in 1995, Bartlett “Bart” Watson.
 
She is survived by her sons, Timothy Alan Watson (Lu Ann) of Oakland, Maryland and their children, Tess Watson and Sylvia Watson, Jonathan Blair Watson of Fairmont, and his children, Kaylee Watson and her fiancé Sam Estep, and Ella Watson
 
Elaine was a retired History Teacher for the Marion County Board of Education with over 30 years of dedicated service. Over her career, she taught at numerous schools including, Fairview, State Street, and North Marion High School. Elaine was a 1955 graduate of Fairmont Senior High School and a Fairmont State College graduate. She achieved her Masters at West Virginia University and was a faithful member of Barrackville United Methodist Church. Elaine loved reading and travelling the world, and made it to over 50 different countries across the globe. She was a key member of Teacher’s Honorarium Kappa Delta Pi, the local Red Hat Society, and Homemakers Club. Most of all, Elaine enjoyed spending time surrounded by close friends, family, and especially her granddaughters.
 
The family has requested memorial donations be made in Elaine’s name to either the Marion County Public Library, 321 Monroe Street, Fairmont, WV 26554, or the Ruth Enlow Library of Garrett County, Maryland at 6 N 2nd St Ext, Oakland, MD 21550.
 
The family would also like to extend a special thank you to the staff and members of Pleasant Acres Christian Haven for their care and compassion.
 
Arrangements have been entrusted to Ford Funeral Home, Ford Chapel, 201 Columbia Street, Fairmont, WV 26554. Friends will be received on Wednesday, March 4, 2026 from 4p.m. until 8p.m. A memorial service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, March 4, 2026 at 7p.m.
 
All other services will be held privately for the family at a later date. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.fordfuneralhomes.com.
