BHS Alumna Patricia "Patty" Rummel First Recipient of Clarksburg History Museum's History Keeper Award

By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on July 05, 2026

The Clarksburg History Museum proudly announced Patricia "Patty" Rummel as the inaugural recipient of its History Keeper Award during the museum's History Friends Gathering held Friday evening, June 26, at The Morris.

Created in 2026, the History Keeper Award recognizes individuals whose lifelong dedication to preserving local history, serving their community, and protecting the stories that define Harrison County has made a lasting impact on future generations. Rummel was selected from an outstanding group of nominees whose contributions reflected decades of service, historical preservation, education, and community leadership.

A graduate of Bridgeport High School, Rummel has devoted her life to serving both her country and her community. Her career included service as a U.S. Army nurse and later as an information technology specialist with the Federal Bureau of Investigation. She has also  remained deeply involved in Community Educational Outreach Service (CEOS), where she has served in numerous leadership positions at the club, county, and state levels.

Beyond her professional career, Rummel has been a tireless advocate for veterans, volunteering with VA programs, collecting donations for veterans, and supporting countless community initiatives. Most recently, she launched a statewide effort to have the West Virginia State Flag Pledge formally recognized by the West Virginia Legislature, a project that has gained support from CEOS organizations across the state and continues to build momentum.

"Patty embodies exactly what the History Keeper Award was created to recognize," said Michael J. Spatafore, president of the Clarksburg History Museum. "She understands that preserving history is about more than protecting the past. It's about ensuring future generations inherit the traditions, values, and stories that make West Virginia unique."

The inaugural class of nominees represented a remarkable cross section of Harrison County's history community, including Brenda Tharp, David Houchin, Jim Winters, Lyda Lister, Marilyn Blake, Rod Rogers, Sylvia Basile, Wanda F. Ashcraft, and Patricia Rummel. Each nominee was recognized during the ceremony for their significant contributions to preserving local history and strengthening the community.
