City Parks of Clarksburg Doing Overhaul of Glen Elk Site to Create Totally New Recreational Experience

By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on January 16, 2026

The City Parks of Clarksburg is moving forward with the construction of a new playground in the Glen Elk area; a project designed to benefit both neighborhood residents and a nearby local school focused on independent, hands-on learning.

The Montessori School, located just a few blocks from the park, regularly utilizes the space for recreation and outdoor activity. Recognizing the importance of the playground to both the school and the surrounding community, the City Parks Board of Directors approved the replacement of the existing equipment.

“When the idea was presented to the Board, the decision to move forward was unanimous,” said Doug Comer, Superintendent of City Parks of Clarksburg. “Once complete, the children will have a completely new playground experience, and most importantly, the equipment will meet all current ADA compliance requirements.”

Like most park improvements, the playground renovation is funded through the City’s Levy Fund. In addition to supporting essential services, the Levy Fund provides City Parks with resources for equipment, vehicles, and playground upgrades. Through this funding structure, the City Parks of Clarksburg is proud to maintain a cycle in which all 16 local playgrounds receive new playground structures approximately every eight years. The Levy is up for election on May 14th of this year.

Regular updates to neighborhood parks ensure that residents and visitors alike can enjoy modern, safe, and engaging play spaces. Children who once played at these parks often return years later to find an entirely new environment, reflecting the Parks Department’s continued investment in community improvement.

Construction of the new playground is scheduled to begin in February, following the removal of the former equipment earlier this year. The new structure is expected to be ready for use approximately two weeks after construction begins. With hopes of an early spring, children in the Glen Elk area will soon have a brand-new, safe place to play in 2026.
