City Pool Opens May 28 with Free Swim "Splash Day;" Parks and Rec Shares Pool Rates, Seasonal Events

Bridgeport Parks and Recreation announces that the City Pool on Main Street will open for the season Saturday, May 28 with a free "Splash Day." From 12-6 p.m., swimmers can enjoy the water, as well as music provided by DJ Sims. The event is weather permitting and there will not be a make-up day, said Parks and Recreation Coordinator Amy Callahan. 
 
With regular rates applying, the pool will be open 12:30-6 p.m. Sunday, May 29 and 12-6 p.m. Monday, May 30. Then, the pool will be open only on weekends until local schools are dismissed for summer vacation in June. 
 
The pool will thereafter be open for the season through Sept. 5 with the following hours of operation: 12-6 p.m. daily, with the exception of some Tuesdays during which the pool will close at 5 p.m. for home meets of the Bridgeport Wildcatter Swim Team. Additionally, the pool will be open 7-9 p.m. for Thursday and Friday Family Nights. The pool will be available for lap swimming 10-11 a.m. Tuesday and Thursday.
 
Children age 11 and under must be accompanied by a responsible adult or guardian age 16 or over. 
 
Pool admission is Infant (age 2 & under) free, Child (age 3-11) $4.50, Adult (age 12 & over) $5.50 and Senior (age 55 & over) $4.50. Family Night admission is $3.50 for all ages. Lap swim is $2 per session. 
 
Discounted rates are as follows: Children: 10 visits $38.25 and 20 visits $76.50; Adults: 10 visits $46.75 and 20 visits $93.50. 
 
Season passes are as follows: Adult resident $100 and non-resident $140. An adult can be added to membership for $35 resident and $40 non-resident. A child can be added for $25 resident and $30 non-resident. A child pass can be purchased for  $90 (resident) and $130 (non-resident). A senior pass can be purchased for $90 (resident) and $130 (non-resident). 
 
Pool passes can be purchased by filling out applications and returning to the Parks and Recreation office at the Benedum Civic Center. Checks should be made payable to the City of Bridgeport. A photo ID will be issued to all season pass holders and they must be presented to gain entrance to the pool without having to pay admission. Card holders are responsible for maintaining possession of their cards at all times while in the pool area. A $5 fee will be charged for additional cards. 
 
Management reserves the right to close admissions if it is deemed the maximum capacity has been reached. Once crowd conditions reach acceptable levels, admissions will re-open. 
 
Callahan also announced that Dive-In Movie Nights will be held Friday, July 15 and Friday, Aug. 5. Come enjoy an evening of swimming beginning at 7 p.m. Then break out the rafts and float in the pool while watching the movie on the 16x20-foot screen. The  movie will be begin around 9 p.m. Normal rates will apply and movies will be announced at a later date. 
 
The Wildcatter Swim Team will hold early registration 4:30-7:30 p.m. Friday, April 29 at the Citynet Center at the Bridge Sports Complex. Swimmers have another change to register 3:30-6:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 31 through Friday, June 3 at Bridgeport City Pool on Main Street. Registration includes evaluations, so swimmers should arrived prepared to swim. 
 
For those interested in Aqua Aerobics, Session 1 will be held Mondays and Wednesdays, June 20 through July 13 and Session 2 will be held Mondays and Wednesdays July 25 through Aug. 17. Times for both sessions are 6:30-7:30 p.m. and cost is $55 per session. Register for both sessions and receive $10 off. Call 304-842-8240 to register.
