City Releases Dates Streets to be Visited for Cleanup Day after One Year Hiatus Due to COVID Pandemic

By Jeff Toquinto on April 06, 2021 via Connect-Bridgeport.com

Last month, the City of Bridgeport announced that after a one-year hiatus that the program for citywide spring cleaning for residents will return. Community Development Director Andrea Kerr made the announcement to satisfy curious residents.

The one piece of information Kerr did not have at the time of the announcement was the days that each individual street would be visited by Waste Management. Now, that list is below, and it should help satisfy individuals who have contacted various city offices wanting to know the answer to that question.

“I would say due to the fact the cleanup was skipped over last year due to COVID that the influx of calls was more so this year than any previous year,” said Kerr. “I think people did not know if we were hosting one or planning one.

“Most of the recent calls have come after people saw the story on Connect-Bridgeport,” she continued. “They are dying to know when their street will be picked up. Now, we have the answer.”

This will mark the third time the city has held the event after last year’s was scrapped. The city will not be doing the actual cleanup. The city partners, and compensates, Waste Management to handle the multi-day cleanup event.

As for the dates and streets included on those dates, it is not randomly done by the city or Waste Management. There is an actual process that takes place to make the determination.

“I work with Waste Management. It’s actually a pretty in-depth process. We go through and indicate the number of residents on each street, so we’re not overloaded on one day,” said Kerr. “You may see a bigger list of streets on day, but everything is based on the numbers on those streets. We try to keep it to the same number of homes each day.”

Kerr said individuals should put their items out the night before. As for an item that has freon in it, it will only be taken if a proper tag is placed on it saying the freon has been removed.
