Community Wins, Causes Win, Local Residents Win in 3rd Bridgeport Lions Club Golf Ball Drop Fundraiser

The sound of six hundred golf balls being dropped from a Bridgeport Fire Department Ladder truck rang through the Bridgeport Sports 
Complex on Saturday afternoon. This culminated the Bridgeport Lions Club’s fourth annual Golf Ball Drop fundraiser, in which six hundred golf balls were sold to raise funds for various community projects and leadership camps and conferences for the youth in our community.

“Our hats are off to the Bridgeport Fire Department for helping to make this a great event,” said Jay Larry, president of the Bridgeport Lions. “We could not do this event without their help, as they are the heavy lifters, raising the golf balls in a tarp and letting them roll towards the golf pin.
“We also thank the Bridge Sports Complex that allows us to use one of the soccer fields for the drop,” Larry continued, “and Mayor Robert Matheny for attending and measuring the distance to the pin.”
Winners of this year’s event were: Jackie Hickey (1st place/closest to the pin - $1,000); Matt Perkins (2nd place – overnight stay for two at Oglebay Resort); Denise Munson (3rd place – Silver Creek Resort package); Ed Clouser – furthest from the pin (Julio’s Restaurant gift certificate and wine basket); Ed Clouser (5th place – a round of golf for four at Stonewall Resort); Audrey Francis (6th place – a round of golf for four at Bridgeport Country Club); and William Jordan and John G. Vash, Jr. (patriotic fun baskets).
“The Bridgeport Lions appreciate the community’s support of our fundraisers and activities,” said President Larry.
