At Monday night’s Bridgeport City Council meeting, the first reading of a sign regulation ordinance will take place. The ordinance entails billboards, outdoor signs and all other signage. Mayor Andy Lang said there are likely no big changes coming, but that it is just time to review the ordinance and make possible updates.

 

“It was brought to our attention that there have been some new electronic signs put up in Bridgeport and we’re not trying to curb any of this, but our sign ordinance was outdated. Some other cities have updates theirs and we wanted to get it on the agenda to start talking about it,” he said. “(City Manager Mr. (Randy) Wetmore has a lot of experience with this so we’re just trying to keep tabs on everything.”

 

Council will also vote to authorize Mayor Lang to enter into agreement with the Division of Justice &  Community Services to receive and administer grant funds: The Greater Harrison County Drug and Violent Crimes Task Force JAG grant in the amount of $30,000 and the Prevention Resource Officer JAG grant in the amount of $15,000.

 

“We’ve applied for both of these grants and received them multiple times,” Lang said.

 

The latter is utilized annually to pay the salary of Bridgeport PRO Jamie Hamrick. Bridgeport Police Chief John Walker administers dollars received through the $30,000 JAG grant.

 

Council will also discuss and act on approving a $10,000 donation to the Drug Free Clubs of America. The financial support, Lang said, will enable more students to become involved with the drug-free initiative without a financial burden.

 

The final agenda items relate to the Indoor Sports and Recreation Complex, including a potential change order for a time extension as requested by contractor, A.M. Higley. The extension is for 77 works days based on the delay of the contract award date.

 

“There was a 90-day delay when we first awarded the contract. It might have even been longer,” Lang said. “They started working on footers and building up walls and relooked at the schedule, asking for a change order to the original schedule they submitted.”

 

Council may enter into executive session to discuss construction, financing and management of the Indoor Sports and Recreation Complex.

The meeting will begin with an invocation by Rev. Jim Lang of Bridgeport United Methodist Church and be preceded by a 60-minute work session. Among scheduled topics, Lang said, are a presentation on the Bridgeport Municipal Building energy analysis.

 

Monday’s meeting begins at 7 p.m. in Council Chambers at Bridgeport Municipal Complex. Members of the public are always invited and encouraged to attend.
