DHFS5K Closing In on Virtual Race Participants From All 50 States for Fourth Straight Year

By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on June 02, 2024 via Connect-Bridgeport.com

Since its inception in 2011, the Derek Hotsinpiller Fallen Stars 5K has strived to find a way to make the event even better the following year.
One of the most popular and successful additions came in 2018 with the introduction of a Virtual 5K.

As of late last week, a virtual runner from 40 of the 50 states has signed up for this year’s race, which happens in six days on June 8 at the Bridgeport City Park.

Race organizers have set the goal to have all 50 states represented – a goal that was achieved in 2021, 2022 and 2023 (additionally, several countries have taken part in the virtual race and are expected to do so again in 2024).

As of late last week, the only states not signed up are Alabama, Arizona, Hawaii, Idaho, Maine, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, Utah and Wyoming.

In addition to West Virginia, the states that currently have double-digit virtual runners are California (13), Kentucky (12), Michigan (13), Pennsylvania (13) and Virginia (18).

The Derek Hotsinpiller Fallen Stars 5K takes place annually to honor those law enforcement officers across this country who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty while following their call to serve and protect our communities.

More information about the DHFS5K, including how to sign up to participate virtually, can be found HERE
