DHHR Reports 602 New COVID Cases; Harrison County's Active Cases at 104; State Deaths at 7,054

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources is reporting as of this morning (Thursday, June 23) the total number of  COVID-19 cases has increased to 528,651 with an increase of 602 new cases since the last update.
 
Thursday's report shows the percentage of positive cases vs. tests given is 8.15 percent. The daily percent positive is at 6.33.
 
According to the DHHR website, Harrison County's numbers are at 21,301 (14,468 confirmed and 6,833 probable). Harrison County's active cases are at 104, there have been 20,939 recoveries and 258 deaths.
 
Please note that delays may be experienced with the reporting of information from the local health department to DHHR. As case surveillance continues at the local health department level, it may reveal that those tested in a certain county may not be a resident of that county, or even the state as an individual in question may have crossed the state border to be tested. 
 
The state's cumulative number of COVID-releated deaths is at 7,054 with 36 deaths reported since the last update.
 
From June 6-20, 2022, the National Center for Health Statistics was unable to certify deaths due to a data system update affecting all 50 states, including West Virginia. This morning’s report reflects the outage in reporting.  Included in the total deaths reported on the dashboard as a result of the Bureau for Public Health’s continuing data reconciliation with the official death certificate are a 53-year old male from Kanawha County, a 68-year old female from Boone County, a 79-year old female from Marshall County, a 75-year old male from Wyoming County, a 39-year old female from McDowell County, an 81-year old female from Raleigh County, a 91-year old female from Logan County, a 91-year old female from Kanawha County, a 59-year old male from Mason County, an 81-year old male from Kanawha County, a 93-year old female from Harrison County, a 66-year old female from Kanawha County, an 89-year old female from Clay County, an 84-year old male from Kanawha County, a 76-year old male from Logan County, a 91-year old male from Jackson County, an 81-year old male from Nicholas County, an 89-year old male from Cabell County, a 79-year old female from Kanawha County, a 71-year old male from Preston County, an 80-year old female from Ohio County, a 107-year old male from Logan County, a 50-year old female from Cabell County, an 84-year old female from Wood County, a 91-year old female from Clay County, an 80-year old female from Morgan County, a 68-year old female from Braxton County, an 81-year old female from Ohio County, an 87-year old female from Kanawha County, a 61-year old male from Wayne County, a 66-year old female from Putnam County, a 68-year old female from Raleigh County, a 68-year old female from Wyoming County, a 75-year old female from Putnam County, a 71-year old female from Putnam County, and an 84-year old male from Kanawha County. These deaths range from February through June 2022.  “Protecting the health, safety and well-being of every West Virginian is our ultimate goal,” said Bill J. Crouch, DHHR Cabinet Secretary. “Please honor those who have lost loved ones by protecting yourself and others with the COVID-19 vaccine and booster.”
 
There are 1,924 active cases and there have been 519,673 recoveries.
 
According to the DHHR site, as of June 22, there are 187 hospitalizations with 22 patients in ICUs and five on ventilators.
