Final Registration Drive for Annual Citywide Yard Sale in Bridgeport More than Triples Participant Numbers

Whether the layoff from one year due to COVID stopped people from initially registering or perhaps many missed the initial announcement on various forms of social media, the second announcement apparently got a lot more traction.

Although the numbers are still down, the final number of those officially registered for the City of Bridgeport’s Annual Citywide Yard Sale jumped substantially. A story that ran last week on Connect-Bridgeport announcing the final day of registration may have played a part.

According to Bridgeport Community Development Director Andrea Kerr, the number of households more than tripled from the initial list. The initial list provided by Kerr had 21 households on it. The final one submitted by Kerr had 67 households on it for the August 7 event.

Kerr said the list will be placed at various city and city-related buildings including the Municipal Complex, Benedum Civic Center, Bridgeport Public Library, The Bridge, and the Greater Bridgeport Convention and Visitors Bureau. Expect that in the days ahead.

“That doesn’t mean you can’t have a yard sale,” said Kerr last week. “It just means your address won’t be on the city list. We have dozens that do the yard sale each year that are not on the list.”

Even with the recent additions, the numbers are still down. Typically, the city sees nearly 100 housholds registered. There are also dozens of homes each year that are not listed that participate.

The back of the list will also feature the names, addresses, and phone numbers of city restaurants.

The yard sale will run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. As Kerr has pointed out in the past, residents can set their own hours, but the city’s observed time will be the time listed. Also, Kerr is asking those visiting the city or those in the city going to the various sales to be respectful of parking issues and drive safely. She said there will be additional police on patrol during the day of the sale.
