Gov. Morrisey, WVDNR Celebrate Historic Campground Opening at Summersville Lake State Park

By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on May 09, 2025

Today, Governor Patrick Morrisey and the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources (WVDNR) announced the official ribbon cutting of the new campground at Summersville Lake State Park. The event marks a major milestone in the opening of West Virginia’s newest state park — a groundbreaking public-private partnership that will serve as a model for future park development across the state.

Governor Morrisey headlined the celebration, joined by Brett McMillion, Director of West Virginia Division of Natural Resources. More than 40 attendees, including key dignitaries and community stakeholders, took part in this important moment for the state’s recreation and tourism sectors.

At the conclusion of the event, Governor Morrisey unveiled a Mountaineer Mile trail at the park.

“West Virginia has the best state parks in the country,” said Governor Morrisey. “I enjoyed the opportunity to celebrate Summersville State Park’s expansion and get some exercise on the Mountaineer Mile.”

“This project showcases what’s possible when innovative ideas and partnerships come together,” said McMillion. “Summersville Lake State Park is not only West Virginia’s newest destination for outdoor recreation but also a blueprint for how we can continue to enhance and expand our park system statewide.”
