Harrison County Native who Impacted Countless Youth as Educator, Elizabeth Anne Romine, Passes

By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on January 20, 2026

Elizabeth Anne (Wetzel) Romine, 78, of West Union, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, at Stellar Care in Woodsfield, Ohio, with her beloved husband by her side. Her life was a beautiful expression of movement, creativity, faith, and love.

Born May 27, 1947, in Clarksburg, West Virginia, Elizabeth was the cherished daughter of the late Forest Edward and Thelma Cowman Wetzel. From an early age, she lived with rhythm in her soul and curiosity in her heart. A proud graduate of Doddridge County High School, Class of 1965, she went on to earn her Bachelor’s degree in Education from West Virginia University and later a Master’s degree in Dance Therapy from New York University—an achievement that reflected her belief in the healing power of art and human connection.

Dance and theater were not merely interests for Elizabeth; they were how she experienced and expressed life. She loved tap dancing, movement, and performance, and she carried that passion into everything she did. Whether skiing, swimming, running, gardening among her flowers, or attending the Sundance Film Festival, Elizabeth embraced life fully and fearlessly. She wrote movie scripts, played in the band for four years in high school, proudly served as Valentine Princess, and remained endlessly curious and creative throughout her life.

As an educator in West Virginia and Pennsylvania, Elizabeth dedicated her life to nurturing minds and spirits, teaching with compassion, enthusiasm, and joy. Her students remember her not only for what she taught, but for how she made them feel—seen, encouraged, and inspired.

Her faith was a steady foundation. A devoted member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church, now Immanuel Fellowship Church, Elizabeth found deep meaning in worship, fellowship, and service. Her love for her church family reflected her broader gift for forming deep, lasting connections. She was a loving, outgoing soul—widely known, deeply cherished, and blessed with many close friends she considered family.

Elizabeth is survived by her husband, William “Roger” Romine; her daughter, Lisa Ann Pratt (David) of Sebastopol, California; and her treasured grandchildren, Maize, Leo, and Eva, who brought her immense joy. Her love will continue to dance on in their lives.

Family and friends will be received at Davis Funeral Home – West Union, 212 Front Street, West Union, on Saturday, January 24, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM. A private family time will follow the visitation.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Stellar Care, C/O Vicki Lohr, 47045 Moore Ridge Road, Woodsfield, OH 43793. Online condolences may be shared at www.davisfuneralhomewestunionwv.com.
