FROM HARRISON COUNTY PARKS AND RECREATION

Harrison County Parks and Recreation will have a 30-day Lego Challenge beginning this Friday, Jan. 15.

The free contest is eligible to all kids ranging from 4-to-11 years of age. Each day, kids will have a challenge to complete and post on the office’s Facebook page. A winner will be drawn and the person selected will be entered in a drawing for a grand prize of a Lego Creation valued at $100.

“In these days of COVID-19 and the amount of time children are staying home learning virtually, we thought that we would put together a contest that uses creative and engineering skills and Legos fits both criteria,” said Harrison County Parks and Recreation Deputy Director Doug Comer. “Competitors will reference our Facebook Page for the daily creation and upon completion, take a photo and leave in the comment section. The staff will vote and chose a winner who will be entered into the grand drawing.”

Some of the challenges will range from tree houses to alien invasions. The department will be looking for creations that have the most originality as well as engineering skills so feel free to look outside the box when making your projects. Comer says the competition is open to anyone who meets the age requirements.

“We hope to maximize participation as we feel that Legos have been an important part of children’s lives,” Comer said. “And hosting an event like this will allow the kids to explore their imagination in hopes of winning. My family, like many others, have made Legos and here is a chance to test your skills and possibly win something in the process.”

Follow the HCPR Facebook Page under Harrison Parks and look for the daily challenge. Create that challenge and in the comment section, post your picture along with your child’s name. On the next day, HCPR will notify the person with the winning creation through Messenger and the name will be added to the list for the grand prize. All daily winners will get a certificate of accomplishment via mail.
