The City of Bridgeport announced another new member to one of its boards at Monday’s City Council meeting.

During the session, the Council appointed Sidney Mai to serve on the Bridgeport Library Board. Her five-year term runs from July 1, 2024 to June 30, 2029.

Mai is taking over a seat that has been held for decades by Bridgeport’s Alison Deem. Library Director Savanna Draper said Deem has served for more than 25 years.

Along with being an active patron who attends many of the library’s children’s activities, Mai brings a unique skillset to the board. She is a 2021 graduate of West Virginia University with a bachelor’s in biomedical engineering. Draper said Mai is currently on a break to spend time with family, that consists of two young girls.

“As a member of the Bridgeport Library Board of Trustees, I plan to connect my past with my future to provide new opportunities to teach those after me,” Mai said in her letter of interest to serve on the board.

She and her husband Timmy are relatively new to the community. Draper said she believes they came to the city after 2021.

“Since she has been a patron here, she has taken an interest in the library, our staff, and the community we serve,” said Draper.

Editor's Note: Sidney Mai is recognized at Monday's Council meeting after being unanimously appointed to the Bridgeport Library Board.
