Moms Unite to Hold Holiday Food Drive for School Backpack Program

The holidays are right around the corner and that also means holiday break from school.

To ensure that students in need have enough snacks to last throughout that time, a group of mothers are on a mission and could use your help.

“We’re holding a food drive now through Dec. 15,” said Ashley Hotsinpiller. “That will give us time to pack up the items so they can be sent home with kids during Christmas break.”

Suggested items are granola bars, instant macaroni and cheese, pudding cups, fruit cups, applesauce cups, fruit pouches, oatmeal packs, pull-tab soup, crackers, chips, Ramen noodles and anything else a child could easily fix to eat.

At the present time, drop-off points are The Bridge Sports Complex, Kindermusic with Miss Carla, the Benedum Civic Center, WV Fitness and Rival Fitness.

“If everyone would donate just one item, imagine how much food we could collect,” Hotsinpiller said. “If you have a group at your office or workplace and want to collect items there, you can contact me, and we’ll make arrangements to pick it up.”

Hotsinpiller can be contacted at AHotsinpiller@gmail.com.

Through the years, various organizations have joined forces to supply school students with snacks to take home. For whatever reason, that supply is dwindling.

“These are hard times. People are (financially) stretched already,” Hotsinpiller said. “There is a lot of need right now and we want to be able to send nice packages home over the holidays for kids who need it.”

Items collected will be distributed through Bridgeport schools, but they will reach students in some other Harrison County schools.

“And if we collect enough, we’ll get it to whoever needs it,” Hotsinpiller said.
