Area first responders were on the scene recently of a multi-vehicle accident on Interstate 79 in Marion County near the Monongalia County line.

According to the Valley Volunteer Fire Department, a late afternoon call - 4:50 p.m. - alerted them to the accident at the 142 mile marker on I-79 southbound right near the county line. Due to the weather, time of day, and construction area, first responders had to navigate heavy traffic to get to the scene.

Upon arrival, members of the Valley VFD discovered a three-vehicle accident that was a collission that was rear-end in nature. Personnel noticed extensive vehicle damage, but there were no injuries reported.

The fast lane of I-79 would be blocked for an extended time. Fire personnel handled traffic control, as well and cleanup of the site as a trio of tow companies removed the vehicles.

The West Virginia State Police handled the investigation.
