Jay Dallas Harriman, 89, of Aurora, IL passed away on February 25th, 2026 in Sandwich, IL. He was born on November 15, 1936 in Morgantown, West Virginia to Dallas and Mary Harriman.
He attended Morgantown High School, and then went on to attend West Virginia University, and finally the University of Chicago for his master’s degree. Jay worked a variety of interesting jobs. He was the pastor of the Sugar Grove United Methodist Church and later assumed
leadership of a public service program at a radio station WMRO in Aurora, IL. His most recent profession was as CFO at Petco Petroleum in Hinsdale, IL, holding this position for over 40 years.

Jay was a man of many interests and talents. He deeply loved politics, supported the arts, and enjoyed gaining knowledge through exhibits and events held at museums and colleges/universities. Jay was a founding member of the Fox Valley Arts Hall of Fame. You could find him at a variety of places, such as the local public television station recording his latest “Not Just for Seniors” series.
You may have noticed him participating and volunteering on local parade committees and country fairs over the years. He loved being a part of the community and supporting where he lived.
He is survived by his children Cynthia Harriman (and special friend James Nichols), Sharon and Scott Smith, and Jamie and Jon Tantiwongse. Grandchildren Christy, Brandon (Amanda) Smith, Matthew, Jonathan, Megan, Ginger, and Benjamin. Two great grandchildren Calista and Carson and one great great granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his father, mother, and beloved cousin Marlene.
The family will be receiving guests on Sunday, March 8th, 2026 from 2:00 PM until time of service at 4:00PM at Dieterle Memorial Home, 1120 South Broadway, Montgomery, IL 60638.
