Numbers Climbing as Dozens Already Registered to Participate in Bridgeport's Annual Citywide Yard Sale

By Jeff Toquinto on July 22, 2024

It’s been several weeks since the City of Bridgeport has announced it will once again be holding the annual Citywide Yard Sale. And once again, the interest in homes participating is strong.

Community Development Director Andrea Kerr said dozens of homes have already been signed up to be included on the official map for the sale. The maps are used by hundreds, if not thousands, of individuals who take part in the annual event.

“We have 55 homes registered for the yard sale to date,” said Kerr Tuesday morning, July 16. “People have been emailing to add them to the list and, when we do, they’re officially registered.”

The city yard sale is set for Saturday, August 3. It is recognized from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., but many people not only opt to start earlier and go longer, but others also make their sale a two-day event.

Typically, Kerr said they will see more than 100 homes registered for the event. The deadline to register by emailing Kerr is July 26.

After that, the addresses will be put on a map, printed, and placed at various city venues for pickup – such as the municipal complex, public library, the Benedum Civic Center, and others. Connect-Bridgeport will announce when the maps are available.

“The number we have with a little more than week to go on registration is about the norm. We always get a rush just before the (July 26) deadline. We are well aware that there will be dozens of others in the community having yard sales that are not on the list,” Kerr said.

Kerr said talks have been held with Bridgeport Police regarding extra patrols and more discussion will be held prior to the event. However, common courtesy and common sense need to come into play, she said.

“It would be nice to pinpoint an exact area where we knew it was going to be terribly crowded, but the crowds are all across the city in just about every neighborhood,” she said. “We’re hoping everyone is cooperative and those involved with sales will make some money and those involved in shopping will find some good deals.”

To register, email Kerr at akerr@bridgeportwv.gov
