Tractor Trailer Wreck on Interstate 79 Leads to Traffic Woes on Harrison-Marion Line; No Injuries Reported

By Jeff Toquinto on May 12, 2026

A recent motor vehicle accident on Interstate 79 north of Bridgeport led to traffic woes and involved a tractor trailer.

The Valley Volunteer Fire Department reported in the early afternoon hours on Sunday, May 3, they responded to the accident on Northbound I-79 near the 130 mile marker. The area sits on the Harrison and Marion County line.

The 1:40 p.m. call reported a tractor trailer crossed into media and had come to a stop in the cable barriers separating the north and southbound lanes. Such proved to be the case upon arrival of the first responders.

Fire personnel responded to also find fluids from the vehicle around the wreck. The tractor trailer had suffered front end damage, but no one was injured in the incident where the cargo included 40,000 pounds of sand.

Traffic was reduced to a single lane. Fire staff put the traffic into the slow lane of I-79 North.

During the time fire personnel cleared the area of debris from the incident, they also isolated fluid coming from the tractor trailer. Hillbilly Towing Heavy Wrecker recovered the vehicle and its trailer to get traffic back to normal.

The West Virginia State Police are investigating the incident. The Valley VFD was on the scene for nearly two and a half hours.
