While Many Canceled Due to COVID-19 Pandemic, More than One Area Fireworks Display is Scheduled

By Jeff Toquinto on June 29, 2020 via Connect-Bridgeport.com

For those of you still hoping for a chance to enjoy fireworks in the area, there are a few options. One that is free in Harrison County and one coming with a price tag just south of Bridgeport in Lewis County.

The City of Shinnston will have its annual 4th of July Fireworks Show Wednesday, according to the City’s Facebook page. The site of the display is above the cemetery across from Lincoln High School.

While many living in the city will be able to view the display from their own property, there is parking available for those that do not. According to the post, parking will be available at Lincoln High School, Lincoln Middle School, Perine Funeral Home and Ace Hardware.

The show is free. CEC Engineering, which has an office in Bridgeport at Charles Pointe, is the sponsor. The Shinnston Fire Department and Larry Gregory are singled out in the post for getting the show ready for public consumption.

While it will take place during the COVID-19 Pandemic, the City of Shinnston is asking individuals to observe guidelines established by the CDC, particularly keeping six feet between groups of individuals attending the display.

Another display is set for the Stonewall Resort in Lewis County. The event there will take place on Saturday, July 4 at lakeside.

In the past, the public was able to pay a small fee at the gate of the resort and watch. However, with COVID-19 issues, this year the event is set aside to groups staying the night in the resort lodge, cottages or campground, using personal watercraft on the lake or participating in a special community dinner and fireworks watch party. The watch party will take place at Lightburn’s Restaurant.

The show is expected to begin at roughly 9:45 p.m., according to their Web site. For those wanting to attend without staying, they can make reservations at Lightburn’s Restaurant. The watch party runs from 6 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. and includes a fee for all members, including children, and seating is limited. To make required reservations, call 304-269-8890 to check availability.

Like Shinnston, the resort has announced it will adhere to social distancing protocols. It will also follow all CDC and health department safety guidelines.

To make lodging reservations or if you have questions, call 304-269-7400.
