Off the Shelf: Bridgeport Library's 2024 Year in Review

By Savanna Draper on December 24, 2024 from Off the Shelf

It’s already the time of year when we like to recap all the services, programs, and materials we were able to provide for our patrons during the year! We have also accomplished a lot of projects during 2024 for our patrons to enjoy. Welcome to the Bridgeport Public Library 2024 Year in Review!

This year, we held 832 programs and events for children, teens, families, and adults. We are so thankful for the patrons who attended our programs. 103 of those programs and events happened outside the library including at places like the Bridgeport Farmers Market, Meadowbrook Mall, Bridgeport Schools, and at special events like Light Up Night, National Night Out, and the Summer Kickoff Festival. We love going out and meeting our community where they are!

Our patrons made visiting our library part of their routine this year as we had 66,962 visits to our library this year. That is 16,213 more visits than last year! New patrons also found us as we had 951 new library card applications this year. Don’t forget to tell your friends and family that signing up for a library card is quick, easy, free, and comes with lots of benefits!

Our patrons also checked out 56,893 books, audiobooks, DVDs, video games, puzzles, and more from our library this year. The top five most checked-out adult books included The Women by Kristin Hannah, The Housemaid by Freida McFadden, Never Lie by Frieda McFadden, Funny Story by Emily Henry, and It Starts With Us by Colleen Hoover. The top 5 most checked-out children’s books included Dog Man: For Whom the Ball Rolls by Dav Pilkey, Cat Kid Comic Club: Influencers by Dav Pilkey, Dog Man: Twenty Thousand Fleas Under the Sea by Dav Pilkey, Dog Man: Grime and Punishment by Dav Pilkey, and Diary of a Wimpy Kid: No Brainer by Jeff Kinney.

The library also completed and introduced several projects and services this year including the installation of our Holds Pickup Lockers making patron book pickup easier than ever, offering passport services, opening our Makerspace up for free-use hours every week, and holding a photography contest to celebrate our 30th year in our current facility.

We want to give a huge thank you to our patrons for supporting us and making it such a great year, and we hope for an even better one next year!
