Off the Shelf: February Features More than 25 Events at the Bridgeport Public Library and You are Invited

By Angela Spatafore on February 04, 2026 from Off the Shelf

February is here, and the library has over 35 different events planned for the month. You can always catch your favorite weekly programs like Juice Box Social for ages 0-5 every Monday at 11 AM, Hooks & Needles for adults every Wednesday from 11-1 PM, Snackchat for teens every Thursday at 4 PM, and the Makerspace Open Hours for all ages every Monday from 2:30-4:30 PM. No registration is required for these weekly events, and you can drop by anytime during the event.

If you’re looking for something to do with the kids, we have fun things planned. Join us Thursday, February 5 for Trading Card Adventures. This event is ideal for those wanting to learn to play Magic the Gathering or the Pokemon™ trading card game. Bring your cards and play with others! If you’re a fan of Legos, we have Building Club on Saturday, February 7 at 12 PM. We provide the bricks, and you get to build whatever you can create. With your imagination and some blocks and bricks, the possibilities are endless! Want to make some art? Creation Station on Wednesday, February 11 at 3 PM might be for you. This month we’re making watercolor valentines! For more holiday fun, join us on Wednesday, February 18 at 3:30 PM for Stitch Squad, where we’ll be weaving hearts.

We also have a few programs suitable for all ages. This month’s Cultural Connections meets Monday, February 16 at 4 PM, and we’re hosting a heritage fashion show! In this show-and-tell style event, please bring in an article of clothing (or photo) to discuss. We’re also hosting another Mario Kart Tournament on Saturday, February 21 at 11 AM. Come play friendly games of Mario Kart on the Nintendo Switch or compete in a tournament bracket for bragging rights! Reading to Dogs returns on Tuesday, February 24 at 6 PM. Come spend some time reading to the Mountaineer Therapy Dogs.

For just adults, we have our fan favorite program, Brush Hour, on Monday, February 9 at 5:30 PM. If you’ve never been to Brush Hour before, it’s simple. We provide everything you need to paint from the provided prompt (or whatever you feel like painting). This month’s prompt is a chocolate-covered strawberry. If you want a more structured art class, join us Wednesday, February 18 at 5:30 PM for Art Workshops: Drawing 101, where you’ll learn the basics of drawing with graphite pencils. We’re also hosting an Art Supply Swap on Thursday, February 26 at 12 PM. Bring supplies you’re looking to swap and browse what others brought. No money may be exchanged, and all supplies not swapped must return home with their owners. Our monthly tech class, Tech Savvy: Rebooted, returns on Thursday, February 12 at 1 PM. This month is all about Account Safety, including password managers and Two-Factor Authentication.

All of these events (and more!) are available to browse on our website, bplwv.org/events, and all events are provided to the community at no cost. We hope to see you soon!

Editor's Note: A family reading to one of the Mountaineer Therapy Dogs at Reading to Dogs in the top photo, while patrons are shown enjoying the monthly adult art event, Brush Hour below.
