Off the Shelf: Looking at Library Programs for Children

By Angela Spatafore on January 21, 2026 from Off the Shelf

Some of our most popular programs for children are our Storytime programs every week for different age groups. These programs include songs and stories that help children develop their language and literacy skills while also giving them a place to socialize with other kids. If you are looking for a fun program to add to your child’s weekly routine, check out the library!

Brilliant Beginnings meets every Wednesday at 12:00 PM in the Children’s Area and is designed for children ages 0-2 and their caregivers. This 20–30-minute story time introduces books, songs, rhymes, fingerplays, tickles, and bounces developmentally appropriate for children from birth to 2 years old. Brilliant Beginnings is a wonderful way to introduce your child to language skills and the joys of reading in a positive and fun atmosphere. This program is designed for both the child and their caregiver to be actively involved, so it is recommended that each child has their own caregiver with them.

Little Learners meets every Thursday at 3:00 PM in the Children’s Area and is designed for children ages 3-6 and their caregivers. This 30-minute story time is full of books, songs, and fun activities to develop your child’s language and listening skills, expand their imaginations, and arouse their curiosity about the world around them. Children and their grownups are encouraged to actively engage and participate in the stories, songs, and rhymes during the program.

While not a structured Storytime, I also wanted to recommend Juice Box Social, which meets every Monday at 11:00 AM and is designed for children ages 0-5 and their caregivers. Juice Box Social offers a social environment for children and their grownups to make friends, play games, and find community. Join us for an hour of free socialization for caregivers and their little ones. Coffee, juice, and other light refreshments will be provided. We’ll also have toys and books available for children to use.

Check out these and all our upcoming events on our website at bplwv.org/events, and also be sure to keep an eye out for our monthly email newsletters. You can sign up for them by clicking the link at the bottom of our website.
