Off the Shelf: No Matter Your Dietary Restrictions or Your Tastes, Library has a Cookbook Just for You

By Sharon Saye on December 11, 2019 from Off the Shelf via Connect-Bridgeport.com

Scrumptious meals are a holiday tradition, but if you are tired of making dozens and dozens of Aunt Fran’s sugar cookies or peanut butter fudge when your sugar intake is restricted, you might want to take advantage of the library’s large collection of cookbooks for inspiration.  There are cookbooks by country, by food types, by dietary restrictions; there are cookbooks of desserts, smoothies, entertainment, and cookies.  So, whatever you are looking for, there is a cookbook for you.

Taste of Home always produces delectable-looking cookbooks.  They are really hard on post-it notes in my house.  One of their newest may just fit the Christmas blues, “Taste of Home Grandma’s Favorites.”  My great-grandmother was a great baker and this cookbook with its hundreds of comforting dishes reminds me of her type of cooking.  There are heartwarming family meals, cherished holiday dinners all to make your Grandma proud.

From savory staples such as fired chicken, juicy meat loaves, bubbling casseroles and hearty roasts to golden breads, biscuits, muffins, chocolate cakes, cobblers and cookies, “Grandma’s Favorites,” should provide just enough inspiration to get you through the holidays and into the doldrums of winter.

Marion County Public Library has been doing our cataloging for most of this year; they deliver new books twice a week.  One new book took a little longer than usual since apparently it was passed around and copied by a lot of their staff members.  All you need to do is browse through the photographs to understand why.

“Half Baked Harvest Super Simple” by Tieghan Gerard contains more than 125 recipes for instant, overnight, meal-prepped and easy comfort foods.  Tieghan Gerard’s blog Half Baked Harvest provided inspiration for this cookbook of recipes that are straightforward yet delicious and designed to make your life just a little bit easier.

You can start your day with an Overnight Cinnamon Roll Bread with Chai Frosting, throw a Beef Bourguigon in the pressure cooker, and then whip up Five-Ingredient Hazelnut Brownies.  There are recipes for slow cookers, pressure cookers, one pan and overnight, all accompanied by scrumptious photographs.  This is the sort of cookbook that is wonderful for the holidays and all year long.

If neither of these cookbooks appeal to you, there are hundreds more of every type and variety.

Happy Baking and Merry Eating.
