By Savanna Draper on October 05, 2022 from Off the Shelf via Connect-Bridgeport.com

October is a busy time for programs at the library! We are debuting a few new programs this month and we have some spooky seasonal ones as well. Whether you are looking for children’s programs, teen programs, or programs for adults, the library has you covered this month. Be sure to visit our event calendar at bplwv.org/events for a complete lineup.

We will hold a Meet & Greet with local author Cynthia Dobbins on Saturday, October 8th from 1:00-2:00 PM in our Children’s Department.  Cynthia Dobbins is the author of The Adventures of Rose and Miss Honey Bee, which is the October book for the Bridgeport StoryWalk. Come out and meet her!

In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we will be hosting an author talk with Sam Simon, the author of the play The Actual Dance with an accompanying performance. The Actual Dance is an award-winning play and has toured internationally for nine years. This event will be held on Tuesday, October 11th from 3:00-4:00 PM in the library’s Conference Room.

Two new programs are coming up for those with a creative streak. Beginner Origami will be held on Thursday, October 13th from 4:00-5:00 PM, and Brush Hour, our new monthly painting club, will have its first session on Thursday, October 17th from 5:30-6:00 PM. Both of these programs will be held in the library’s Conference Room and all supplies are provided.

Another new program, Signing Made Easy, will be held on Thursday, October 18th from 5:00-7:00 PM in the library’s Conference Room. Beginners are welcome to attend this Sign Language class and all ages are invited to participate. Practice both your receptive and expressive skills while building on vocabulary and Deaf culture.

The library will be holding a Trunk or Treat event on Saturday, October 22nd from 3:00-6:00 PM in the back library parking lot. Come enjoy some fun treats and get to know some local businesses and organizations in your community!

In the spirit of Halloween, we will be hosting a Storytelling Contest on Monday, October 24th from 5:30-7:00 in the library’s Conference Room. Do you have a good scary story to share? Test your storytelling skills in our storytelling contest. The winner will receive a copy of The Tell-Tale Lilac Bush and Coffin Hollow by Ruth Ann Musick.

Two special reading programs are coming up at the end of October. Reading to Dogs (Mountaineer Therapy Dogs) will be held on Tuesday, October 25th from 6:00-7:00 PM in our Children’s Department and Read for the Record (Jumpstart’s Read for the Record campaign) will be on Thursday, October 27th from 3:30-4:00 in our Children’s Department.

We hope to see you at the library this month!
