Off the Shelf: Take a Look at Our Various Book Clubs

By Angela Spatafore on December 10, 2025 from Off the Shelf

If you are passionate about books and want to talk about them with like-minded people, the Bridgeport Public Library has several book clubs depending on your age and interests. Our winter brochure includes a 3-month calendar of the books we will be reading in our book clubs but keep reading to learn more about each of our book clubs and how you can even start one of your own!

We have two book clubs for adults. Read in Red is our long-standing mystery book club that typically meets the 3rd Thursday of each month at 1:00 PM. Each month, you can pick up a copy of the chosen book. For the next meeting on December 18th, we are discussing A Curious Beginning by Deanna Raybourn, the first book in the Veronica Speedwell Mystery series—perfect for fans of Victorian-era British mysteries. We still have copies available to check out!

The Open Book Club typically meets on the 4th Thursday of the month at 4:00 PM, but unlike a classic book club, instead of everyone reading the same book, everyone reads any book written by the same author. This leads to some very interesting discussions! Because of the holidays, we will meet again on Thursday, December 18th, where we will discuss books by Isabel Allende.

For teens, we host a book club called Tomes & Tropes, where we discuss tropes and books that fit the trope. Our next meeting will be on Thursday, January 8th from 5:00-6:00 PM, where we will discuss comfort reads. You still have time to pick out a book you consider a comfort read before we meet again.

Finally, for children between the ages of 6 and 11, we have the Bookwyrm Book Club. The Bookwyrm Book Club encourages elementary aged children to continue to embrace reading and exploring different genres. Attendees are encouraged to talk about their favorite books or things they are struggling with in regards to reading. Light snacks are provided. We meet the first Friday of the month from 3:00-4:00 PM.

Are you looking to start a book club with your friends, neighbors, or coworkers? We have you covered! Book club kits we used for previous book clubs can now be reserved for checkout. Our book club kits come with 5-10 copies of a book, sample book club questions, and a handy synopsis. Learn more about reserving a book club kit on our website: https://www.bplwv.org/book-club-kits-17067 There you will find a full list of book titles available to check out and instructions on how to reserve a kit. Happy reading!
