Off the Shelf: Time Nears to Re-Open Your Library

By Sharon Saye on April 14, 2021 from Off the Shelf via Connect-Bridgeport.com

If there is one thing we have all learned during this last year under coronavirus is: nothing is certain.  I am pointing out that message since the library is hoping to re-open on April 15th with limitations.  So, don’t be surprised if there are changes.

First, we are continuing our current hours: Monday, Wednesday, Friday, noon until 8 p.m. and Tuesday and Thursday from noon until 5 p.m.  The library has had quite a few staff members retire or move on during this past year and until they are all replaced and trained, we are unable to expand these hours.

Second, we will be continuing our contactless pickup.  You will need to come into the building to pick up your bags on a table in the front of the library where the tax forms used to be.

Patrons must always wear a mask while in the library.

We have had to remove a considerable amount of seating to meet the social distancing requirements, so we are restricting the time spent in the library to two hours.  Hopefully, that should be sufficient to find books or do some research.

Social distancing also limited the number of computers to five and we are limiting that to one hour per day per patron.  Please sign up at the desk.

Restrooms will be open, but regular times for cleaning will be posted.

The collection is mostly available with some limitations.  Materials returned will still be quarantined in the conference room for 72 hours.  Most magazines and newspapers will be available, but since the coronavirus lives longer on slick paper they will have to be quarantined after each use.  So, please return them to designated carts after you have used them.  Also, if you pick up a book in the stacks, please place them on the designated carts as well.

Parents must always remain with children, and since the meeting room is being used to quarantine materials, there will be no physical programs.

This is going to be a learning process for all; so, please be patient, but it will be so nice to be open again.
