Off the Shelf: Time for '24 Summer Reading Program

By Savanna Draper on June 19, 2024 from Off the Shelf

It’s officially time for our 2024 Summer Reading Program, Adventure Begins at Your Library! Pack your bags and your imagination and get ready for a world of discovery at your library! This year's challenge has plenty to offer all ages. Log your minutes read, write reviews for books, explore Bridgeport at your leisure for the Community Scavenger Hunt, and attend special events to earn tickets you can put towards your favorite prizes. Visit bplwv.beanstack.org or download the Beanstack Tracker mobile app to register for our Summer Reading Program that runs now through July 19.

We want everyone to be excited about this year’s Summer Reading Program and participate, so with that said, let's answer some frequently asked questions and clear away some misconceptions. Isn't summer reading just for kids? No! Bridgeport Public Library offers a Summer Reading Program for all ages! It fits within our vision of encouraging lifelong learning. So, whether you're a toddler spending time reading with your caregiver or you’re 99 looking for ways to connect with others in your community, this is for you!

What if I don't live in Bridgeport or I'm already participating in another library's Summer Reading Program? Not a problem! We recognize that people travel during the summer and that different libraries offer different events and activities for their communities. We are more than happy to add to the variety of opportunities offered by libraries both in our area and across the nation. Sign up for as many Summer Reading Programs as you can!

What if I can't read or I'm not much of a reader? Not a problem! If physical books aren't your thing, audiobooks and eBooks also count. Prefer reading magazines and journal articles or the newspaper? Those also count! And while libraries promote literacy, we also recognize that it is just one of the many avenues that people can learn. We also offer a variety of events that our community can participate in that don't involve reading. You can always check our calendar at bplwv.org/events or ask how to sign up for our newsletters!

Did you say prizes? Yes! We have a lot of really cool prizes available this year including a luggage set, pop-up books, a drone, a telescope, adventure packs, and more! Earn badges to collect tickets and enter to win your favorite prizes!

We look forward to adventuring with you this summer! If you have questions regarding this year’s Summer Reading Program, do not hesitate to reach out.
