Off the Shelf: Work Out Your Body and Mind at Library

By Angela Spatafore on February 25, 2026 from Off the Shelf

Did you know you can work out your body as well as your mind at the library? We have several free wellness events you can attend plus some unique items available for check out. Keep reading to find out more! Be sure to visit our website (bplwv.org) to register for any class that catches your eye.

Join us twice a month for Yoga at the Library. This program for adults is run by talented instructors from That Yoga Studio in White Hall. Our one-hour yoga session for beginners will guide you through gentle movements and breathwork. Since this class is so popular, we now offer a morning class as well as an evening class. The next evening class will be on March 2nd at 6:00 PM, and the next morning class will be on Monday, March 9th at 11:30 AM. Registration for all classes is required as spots fill up quickly.

New to our wellness lineup is our Tai Chi class for adults. Want to build balance, flexibility, and strength? Join us for a Tai Chi routine suitable for all skill levels on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month at 11:30 AM. Led by Michelene Sheppard, this is a beginner-friendly Tai Chi program. Please wear comfortable clothing and tennis shoes. Also, bring a water bottle! Like Yoga at the Library, registration is required for this class due to space constraints.

Now, let’s see what you can check out with your library card! Pickleball has been popular especially with the pickleball courts at Deegan and Hinkle Lakes Park. While we are still in winter, keep us in mind when spring rolls around! We have a pickleball-themed Hobby Kit available for checkout. Our Hobby Kit includes everything you need to get started including pickleballs, paddles, court markers, and even an optional, full-size net.

We, of course, also have a decent collection of print and digital books that cover different topics related to fitness and wellness including running, tai chi, Pilates, yoga, strength training, and more. You can also access free videos covering topics like meditation, yoga, and more through our e-resource, Udemy. You can access this resource and more on our website: https://www.bplwv.org/databases
