Bridgeport returned to the top spot of the Class AAA WVSSAC football standings that were released today.
The WVSSAC rankings, a computer-based ranking, determine the teams that qualify for the playoffs. The SSAC standings also determine where each team in the 16-teamfield is seeded.
Last week, the Indians dropped from No. 1 to No. 3 in the third set of rankings released. The WVSSAC does not release its computer rankings until the third week of the season is complete.
Greenbrier East, with a 3-1 record, is listed in the second spot. Princeton, at 4-0, is ranked third, while Fairmont Senior – last week’s top-ranked Class AAA team – fell to the fourth spot. The Polar Bears lost to Class AAAA University last week.
Future Bridgeport opponent Spring Valley is also ranked. SVHS is currently ranked No. 11 with a 3-2 record.
Two other Big 10 schools are currently in the top 16. North Marion (4-1) comes in at No. 9, while Robert C. Byrd, 2-3, is No. 16.
In Class AAAA, Morgantown at 5-0 is ranked in the top spot. They are followed by George Washington, also 5-0, at No. 2. No other team is undefeated in Class AAAA.
In Class AA, 5-0 Independence is ranked first and is followed by 5-0 Frankfort at No. 2. Philip Barbour, who was upended earlier this year by BHS, is ranked No. 3 with a 3-2 record.
Doddridge County and South Harrison are also currently in the 16-team playoff field. The Bulldogs are No. 8 with a 4-0 mark, while the Hawks come in at No. 13 with a 4-1 record.
In Class A, Wheeling Central at 4-1 is ranked first. Wahama follows at 5-0 for the No. 2 spot.
