BHS Maintains Pole Position in Class AAA MetroNews Prep Poll Following Victory against Robert C. Byrd

By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on September 30, 2025

Bridgeport maintained its top spot in the most recent MetroNews Power rankings that were released Monday. The Indians are 5-0 after a 77-6 win against Robert C. Bryd this past Friday.

BHS remains the only team in the poll as a unanimous choice with all 20 first place votes. The poll is voted on by radio broadcasters and sports writers from across West Virginia. The poll also does not play into the postseason rankings, which is determined by the WVSSAC’s computer-based rankings.

The Tribe will look to stay perfect this week. The Indians will host Fort Hill out of Maryland at Wayne Jamison Field.

Fairmont Senior (3-1), a future Bridgeport opponent, dropped to No. 4 after a 37-28 loss to University High School. Princeton (4-0) remains No. 2, while Herbert Hoover (4-1) jumped up to the third spot.

Nitro (4-1) rounds out the top five. North Marion (4-1) comes in at No. 6. Future BHS opponent Spring Valley (3-2) is No. 9. Elkins is in the “receiving votes” portion of the poll.

Huntington (3-1) is ranked No. 1 in Class AAA with 15 first place votes. Morgantown (5-0) is the new No. 2 with the final five first place votes.

Independence (5-0) is ranked No. 1 with 13 first place votes in Class AA, while Frankfort (5-0) is ranked second. Doddridge County (4-0) is ranked No. 4 and has the final first place vote.

Philip Barbour (3-2), a past BHS opponent, is ranked No. 8. The Colts defeated previously unbeaten Elkins 37-14. South Harrison is in the “receiving votes” portion of the poll.

In Class A, Wahama (5-0) is in the top spot with 16 first place votes. Wheeling Central (4-1) is No. 2 with the final four first place votes.
