Bridgeport Baseball Completes Perfect Weekend in Morgantown Behind Stellar Pitching
By Michael Minnich on April 13, 2026
Excellent pitching was the common thread throughout the weekend as the Bridgeport Indians allowed just two runs in each of their three wins at the Mon Valley Classic, beating Frankfort (6-2) on Friday and Hurricane (4-2) and Huntington (7-2) on Saturday.
Blake Butcher got the nod against the Falcons in a rematch of last year’s regional final series, going 6 2/3 innings and striking out 11 batters, giving up two runs on six hits for the win.
Jax McNally and Owen Sondericker led Bridgeport offensively with two runs, a run and an RBI, while Luke Rohrig had two singles and scored three runs.
Aidan Dunn doubled and scored a run and Talan Thomas drove in two.
Bridgeport scored two runs in the first, then, after both teams scored in the third, added an insurance run in the fourth and two in the sixth before the Falcons got a late run in the seventh.
Against Hurricane, Sondericker limited the Redskins to one earned run on two hits while fanning nine in a complete game.
Rohrig homered and drove in two runs and Connor Straley had two hits and a run out of the 9-spot.
Dunn and Anthony Julian each drove in a run.
After falling behind 1-0 in the second, the Tribe scored pairs of runs in the top of the third and top of the fourth.
Facing Huntington at Kendrick Family Ballpark on the WVU campus, Dom Fazalare (two unearned runs on five hits in four innings) and Straley (three shutout innings, no walks, two hits, two strikeouts) combined for the victory.
Kasen Baun doubled and drove in two runs, Julian also had two RBIs and Dunn added an RBI.
Down 2-0 after the third, Bridgeport exploded for five runs in the fifth and added two more in the sixth.
Bridgeport is 8-2 heading into a new week and will host Buckhannon-Upshur on Monday at 5 p.m.
