Bridgeport Basketball Alums Reep, Glenn, Spatafore, Kummer Prepare for MEC Tournaments

By Michael Minnich on March 03, 2026

Several Bridgeport alumni basketball players will take part in the Mountain East Conference men’s and women’s basketball tournaments, which begin on Wednesday at WesBanco Arena in Wheeling.

The Fairmont State women, who have Gabby Reep on the roster and Miki Glenn on the coaching staff, are the No. 5 seed after going 20-8 in the regular season with a 13-7 conference mark.

Reep, a junior, has taken a major step forward after being a key reserve for FSU last year, earning First-Team All-MEC honors and starting every game this season.

She is averaging 14.3 points per game, nearly triple her sophomore number of 5.1, and leads the team in scoring in the absence of the injured Leslie Huffman.

Reep’s all-around numbers are also excellent: 5.8 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 2.8 steals a contest.

Glenn, who led Bridgeport to the state title in 2013 and won the Mary Ostrowski Award as the state’s top prep and won a Division II national title at Cal (Pa.), is FSU’s associate head coach and has been on the staff since 2019.

The Fighting Falcons have a bye and will play No. 4 seed Concord on Thursday night at 8:30 p.m.

With a win, FSU would play in Saturday’s semifinals at 12 p.m.

Glenville State (22-5, 16-4) is the women’s top seed, followed by West Virginia Wesleyan (18-6, 15-5) and Charleston (18-10, 14-6).

Wheeling (17-11, 12-8) is the No. 6 seed, ahead of Frostburg State (14-14, 9-11), West Virginia State (12-15, 8-12), West Liberty (10-18, 6-14) and Point Park (4-16).

The MEC women’s championship game is at 1 p.m. on Sunday.

On the men’s side, redshirt sophomore Anthony Spatafore has been a solid rotation piece for Fairmont State, appearing in 19 games and averaging 2.8 points per game.

He scored a career-high 11 points in a Dec. 6 win over West Virginia Wesleyan and has been an excellent 3-point shooter, knocking down 12 of 24 attempts.

Like Reep, Spatafore is coached by a Bridgeport alum as Donald Kummer is an assistant on Tim Koenig's staff.

Kummer began as a graduate assistant in 2020, then was elevated to assistant coach in 2021.

As a player, he was part of three NCAA Tournament teams at FSU, including the national runner-up squad coached by current Boston Celtics head man Joe Mazzulla.

The Fairmont State men earned the No. 2 seed with a 24-4 overall mark and a 17-3 conference record and will face either No. 7 Frostburg State (14-14, 10-10) or No. 10 West Virginia State (8-20, 4-16) in the quarterfinals at noon on Friday.

West Liberty (24-4, 18-2) is on the top line, with the other first-round byes belonging to No. 3 Wheeling (19-8, 14-6), No. 4 Charleston (19-8, 14-6), No. 5 Glenville State (17-11, 11-9) and No. 6 Concord (14-14, 10-10).

No. 7 Frostburg State (14-14, 10-10), No. 8 Davis & Elkins (9-19, 6-14), No. 9 Point Park (8-18, 5-15) and No. 10 West Virginia State (8-20, 4-16) complete the field.

Fairmont State’s potential men’s semifinal game would be Saturday at 8:30 p.m., while the title game is at 4 p.m. on Sunday.
