Bridgeport High School Golf Team Finishes Fourth at Class AAA Region I Championship Match

The Bridgeport High School golf team placed fourth at the Class AAA Region I championship match on Monday at Highland Springs Golf Course in Wellsburg.
University and Wheeling Park went 1-2 to earn the state tournament team spots. The Hawks finished with a 224 and the Patriots’ score was 228.
University’s Daniel Grabo and Wheeling Park’s Andrew Pennybacker shared low medalist honors with a 73.
Morgantown, which finished third at 230 had the two individuals that scored at-large bids to the state tournament in Solas Chhin-Kreiner and Gabe Watson, who each had a 76.
The Indians finished with a 242. Audrey Kerr led the way with a 79. Colton Gerhards had an 81 and Anthony Hazey shot an 82 to account for the 242 team points. Also, for BHS, Tanner Straley shot an 86.
Preston was fifth at 246 and followed by Fairmont Senior at 249, Buckhannon-Upshur with 257, John Marshall at 258 and Brooke at 260.
The state tournament will take place Oct. 8-9 at Oglebay Park in Wheeling.
