Bridgeport Middle Falls to Lincoln, 4-1, in Conference Softball Battle

By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on April 13, 2026

FROM BMS COACH BILLY ESTOK

The Lincoln Lady Wildcats traveled from Shinnston to Bridgeport to play the Lady Braves in middle school softball action.

Payton Fisher, the starting pitcher for BMS, struck out the first four batters she faced. Her counterpart, Baylea Grogg, struck out the first two BMS batters she faced. Both pitchers held their opponents scoreless through the first four innings.

The Lady Braves had runners in scoring position in the bottom of the third and fourth innings but could not bring those runners home.

In the top of the fifth, Torie Earnest walked to start the frame. Following an infield ground out, Earnest moved to second. With two outs, Hallie Lasure singled to centerfield to score Earnest with the first run of the game. Back-to-back BMS infield errors allowed one run to score. A walk to Lily Lane loaded the bases. Adelyn Hill followed with a two RBI single to centerfield and that gave Lincoln a 4-0 lead.

In the bottom of the fifth, Olivia Chapman singled and stole second to start the inning. One out later, Julie Hall singled and Chapman took third. On a wild pitch, Chapman attempted to score. She was thrown out at home after the pitch caromed off the backstop directly to the catcher who tossed to the pitcher covering.

Fisher held the Lady Wildcats scoreless over the final two frames. She doubled with one out in the bottom of the sixth but could not cross the plate.

In the Lady Braves' half of the seventh with one out, Chapman walked. With two outs, Chapman went to third on an infield error off the bat of pinch hitter Aubree Owens, who ended up at second. Molly Frenzel brought Chapman home on an infield single with BMS’ first and only run of the game.

The final score was Lincoln 4 and Bridgeport 1.

Grogg was the winning pitcher for the Lady Wildcats. Her pitching line read, seven innings, one run, five hits, two walks, and eleven strikeouts.

Fisher was the losing pitcher in a valiant effort. Her pitching line read seven innings, four runs, two earned runs, six hits, three walks, and thirteen strikeouts.

The Lady Braves were scheduled to return to action at the Bridgeport Softball Field last Saturday to play the Liberty Lady Mountaineers on eighth grade recognition day. The ceremony was scheduled to be held prior to the start of the game.
