Bridgeport Middle Softball Advances in Conference Tournament

The Bridgeport Middle Lady Braves entered the Mid-Mountain 10 Conference Softball Championship Tournament as the number four seed. Their opponent was the number five seed, the Liberty Lady Mountaineers.
 
The game was played at Gibson Barnard Sr. Memorial Field, the home field of the Lincoln Lady Wildcats.
 
BMS opened the scoring in the bottom of the first. Molly Frenzel reached on a bunt single and moved to third on a two-base throwing error. She scored on a wild pitch to make 1-0.
 
Liberty took the lead in the top of the third. With two outs, two singles, two stolen bases, a walk, a wild pitch, and a passed ball gave Liberty a 2-1 lead.
 
Brooklyn Swiger was hit by a pitch to start the bottom of the third. With two outs, she advanced to second on a wild pitch.
 
Payton Fisher, the BMS starting pitcher, singled to bring Swiger home.
 
Nora Martin reached second on a two-base outfield error that plated Fisher. Audrey Corder singled to centerfield to bring Martin home. The Lady Braves now had a 4-2 lead.
 
The Lady Mountaineers cut the BMS 4-3 on a one out triple and a two out double in the top of the fourth.
 
Liberty tied the game at four in the top of the fifth. A one out double to left centerfield and two passed balls contributed to the scoring.
 
The Lady Mountaineers regained the lead in the top of the sixth. A single, a walk, and a BMS infield error contributed to the run scoring and that gave Liberty a 5-4 lead.
 
The Lady Braves responded with a single run in their half of the sixth. Swiger walked and moved to second on a passed ball. Sophia Humble grounded out to third with Swiger scoring from second base. The game was tied at 5-5.
 
In the top of the seventh, the first batter reached first on a BMS infield throwing error and took third on another throwing error on the same play. One out later, a single brought home Liberty’s sixth run of the game.
 
To the bottom of the seventh we go. Martin walked and came around to third base on a single by Corder.
 
Corder stole second and Amelia Green walked to load the bases.
 
Martin attempted to score on a wild pitch but was tagged out on a close play at the plate. Corder and Green each advanced a base on the wild pitch.
 
One out later, Olivia Fittro smacked a triple down the leftfield line to bring home the winning runs for the Lady Braves.
 
The final score was BMS 7 and Liberty 6.
 
Fisher tossed a complete game for the pitching win. Her pitching line read seven innings, six runs, six hits, two walks and 16 strikeouts.
 
With the win, the Lady Braves advanced to the conference semifinals on Wednesday evening. The game will be played at Buckhannon-Upshur Middle School, with first pitch set for 5 p.m.
 
Their opponent will be the Lincoln Lady Wildcats, the tournament’s number one seed.
