Bridgeport Middle Softball Beats Taylor County, Seeded 4th for Mid-Mountain Tourney

By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on May 11, 2026

FROM BMS COACH BILLY ESTOK

Early last week, Bridgeport Middle School and Taylor County Middle School agreed to add one more game to the 2026 regular season schedule. The game was played last Thursday in Grafton.

The BMS Lady Braves jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the opening frame. Molly Frenzel tripled to leftfield and scored on an error on the play. Sophia Humble singled and came around to score on a single by Payton Fisher and a TCMS throwing error. Fisher took third on a wild pitch and scored on a sacrifice fly to left by Audrey Corder.

TCMS countered by scoring four times in the bottom of the first. A double, four singles, and a BMS infield error contributed to the scoring.

BMS tied the game at four in the top of the second. Olivia Chapman singled and went to second on a wild pitch. Olivia Fittro reached second on a TCMS infield throwing error and Chapman scored on the play.

The Lady Braves took the lead in the top of third. Nora Martin, Corder, and Amelia Green loaded the bases with two walks and a single. Chapman singled to plate Martin. With one out, starting pitcher Samara Smith doubled to left centerfield and that plated the final two runs of the inning and gave BMS a 7-4 lead.

The Lady Knights plated a single run in their half of the third. A one out triple and an infield ground out made the score 7-5 in favor of BMS.

The fourth inning saw BMS add four additional runs. Singles by Humble and Fisher started the inning. Martin hit into a force play and that put runners on first and third. Corder followed with an RBI single. Green walked to load the bases and Chapman walked to have Martin cross the plate. Back-to-back singles by Fittro and Smith plated two more runs. The scoreboard read an 11-5 BMS advantage.

TCMS sent ten batters to the plate in the bottom of the fourth. Two singles, two doubles, two triples, a walk, and a BMS fielding error allowed five runs to score. The BMS lead was down to one run.

In the fifth, the Lady Braves had an answer to the Lady Knights scoring outburst. Humble started the inning with a walk. Fisher tripled to bring Humble home and Fisher scored on a single by Martin. Corder singled and Green doubled to score Martin. Chapman and Fittro followed with back-to-back singles and that brought two more runs across the plate. With one out, Frenzel hit a two RBI triple, and she scored on an infield single by Humble. After Fisher hit into a fielder’s choice, she stole second and scored on a single by Martin. The Lady Braves scored nine runs to take the lead 20-10.

In the bottom of the fifth, BMS made a pitching change. Fisher entered the circle in relief of Smith. She retired the Lady Knights in order and secured the Lady Braves win.

The Lady Braves are now entering the Mid-Mountain Ten Conference Softball Championship Tournament. They are the number four seed and will play Liberty Middle School in their first game of tournament. That game will take place on Monday evening at 6:30p.m. at the home field of Lincoln Middle School.

The full tournament schedule is below.
