Bridgeport Middle Softball Falls in Close Game to Westwood

By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on May 06, 2026

FROM BMS COACH BILLY ESTOK

Bridgeport Middle School and Westwood Middle School were able to agree upon a date to play each other in softball. The date was last Saturday, and the game was played at Lynch Field at Mylan Park in Morgantown.

The Lady Braves started the game with a leadoff double by Molly Frenzel.

She came around to score as Payton Fisher reached safely on a Westwood infield throwing error.

Westwood tied the game at 1 in the bottom of the first. A leadoff triple and a two-out single brought the run home.

The Lady Warriors took the lead in the top of the second inning.

A leadoff single and a BMS infield error put a runner on second. Two infield ground outs plated the Lady Warriors second run,

Westwood extended its lead to 3-1 in the bottom of the third. A one-out walk, a stolen base, and a throwing error put a runner on third. The third run scored on an infield ground out.

The Lady Warriors made it 4-1 in the bottom of the fifth on a leadoff inside-the-park home run.

In the top of the seventh with two outs, Frenzel singled and stole second.

She scored on an RBI single off the bat of Aubree Owens.

Fisher followed with a single and Nora Martin reached on a dropped third strike to load the bases.

Unfortunately, the Lady Braves could not do any additional scoring.

The final score was Westwood 4 and BMS 2.

The Lady Braves will complete their 2026 regular season on Thursday night when they travel to Grafton to play the Taylor County Lady Knights. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
