Bridgeport Softball Concludes Busy Week of Conference, Non-Conference Action

By Michael Minnich on April 11, 2026

Freshly minted as the No. 9 team in Class AAA by state coaches, the Bridgeport Indians concluded a busy week of softball action.

On Monday, the Tribe fell to Lewis County, 6-2.

Bridgeport took the lead in the top of the third inning.

Emma Dale was hit by the pitch, then Reese Van Zant singled to short and an error put two runners in scoring position.

Gracia Knight then bunted Dale home.

After Knight was caught stealing, Avery Humble singled home Van Zant.

Lewis County, though, scored a run in the third, four in the fourth and one in the sixth to claim the victory.

Van Zant and Humble each had two hits.

Next, Bridgeport blanked Philip Barbour at home, 15-0, in three innings.

Addison Mike held the Colts to one hit and struck out three in three innings of work for the shutout in the circle.

Humble had a double and two RBIs and Knight singled, drove in a run and scored another.

Peyton Kelley drove in two runs and scored one.

Mahaylee Messenger, Amayah Clark and Bre Laxton all scored two runs.

Bridgeport drew 18 walks in the game and scored five runs in the first inning, eight in the second and two in the third to bring the mercy rule into play.

The Tribe then couldn’t make a 5-0 lead stick against Williamstown, falling 9-8.

Bridgeport scored two runs in the second.

Clark singled with one out, then Laxton walked.

A steal and an error brought both runners home.

The Tribe tacked on three in the third.

Humble started the party with a solo home run, then Messenger walked, Clark reached on an error on a bunt, then Olivia Corder had an RBI single later in the inning.

Then, after Williamstown rallied within a run with 2-spots in the fourth and fifth, Bridgeport added two runs on the fifth to lead 7-4.

Laxton walked, Corder singled, then Kelley worked a walk to load the bases.

A passed ball scored courtesy runner Lilly Thompson, then walks to Van Zant and Knight forced in a run.

Williamstown, though, took the lead for good with five runs in the sixth.

Bridgeport nearly rallied in the seventh as Corder and Dale walked, then, after a foul bunt for strike 3, a passed ball moved both runners up and Van Zant delivered an RBI groundout, but a strikeout ended the game.

Bridgeport then lost 12-0 at John Marshall in five innings on Friday.

Knight had a single.

The Tribe (5-3) host Buckhannon-Upshur on Monday at 5 p.m.
