Bridgeport Track & Field Doubles Up as Big 10 Conference Champions

It’s a double set of celebrations for the Bridgeport Indians track & field program.
Both the boys and girls teams brought home the Big 10 Conference championship trophy from Elkins on Tuesday.
The Bridgeport boys scored 174 points to outpace Elkins (142), Lincoln (78), East Fairmont (56.5), Grafton (50), Preston (43), North Marion (41), Fairmont Senior (38), Buckhannon-Upshur (20), Robert C. Byrd (16.5) and Lewis County (4).
The girls put 127 points on the board, ahead of East Fairmont (112.83), Elkins (96.83), Fairmont Senior (87), Lincoln (53), Preston (53), Robert C. Byrd (52), North Marion (37.33), Lewis County (29), Grafton (24), Buckhannon-Upshur (21) and Philip Barbour (9).
Will George continued his torrid season in the sprints, taking the 100 meter dash in 11.14 seconds and the 200 meter dash in 22.30 seconds.
Gavin Williams was third in both events in 11.18 seconds (after a 11.00 that was the best time in preliminaries) and 22.71 seconds, while JT Ritter (11.48) was seventh in the 100.
Kieran Moore completed a sweep of the sprints for the Tribe, winning the 400 meter dash in 51.76 seconds, nearly 2.5 ahead of the field, and also took fourth in the 300 meter hurdles in 44.17 seconds.
Troy Zorick won the 3200 meter run in 10:20.07, was third in the 800 meter run in 1:59.45 and took fourth in the 1600 meter run in 4:39.88.
Sawyer Culicerto (16.29 seconds) and Gabe Martin (16.42) went 1-2 in the 110 meter hurdles and Braeden Matthis was seventh in 17.23.
Culicerto also claimed second in the 300 meter hurdles in 42.97 seconds.
The 4x100 meter relay put the three individual event placers (George, Williams and Ritter) alongside Carson Bastin for a win in 44.55 seconds.
Culicerto, Matthis, Graham Vincent and Aiden Gorby claimed first in the shuttle hurdles in 59.77 seconds.
George, Ritter, Moore and Bastin placed second in the 4x200 relay in 1:34.93.
Ritter, Moore, Culicerto and Henley Hinkle posted a time of 3:33 flat for second in the 4x400 relay.
Gorby leapt 19’9.75 for second in the long jump.
Vincent cleared 5’10 for third in the high jump.
Parker Muncy (9’6) placed third in the pole vault and Tildon Cope (9’0) tied for fourth.
Jaylen Brown (46’10) was third in the shot put, Harrison Hall (43’1) claimed fifth and Brody Abraham (39’8) eighth.
William Henderson (117’0) was fifth in the discus.
For the girls, Becky Pepper-Jackson was a double winner in the throwing events, with her 38’3 shot put best well ahead of the second-place throw of 32-11 and her 107’4 discus just a few inches in front of the runner-up distance of 106’11.
Isabella McCullough took third in the shot put at 32’4 and seventh in the discus at 86’11.
Aria Selario won the 3200 meter run in 11:30.27, with Bethsayed Dankiewicz third in 12:13.34 and Liana Rajjoub eighth in 13:33.48.
Selario (5:25.32) and Mikaela DeMoss (5:43.20) were second and fourth in the 1600 meter run.
Tobrey (8’0), Scarlett Edgell (8’0) and Ellie Bongiorno (7’6) placed second, third and fifth, respectively, in the pole vault.
Emma Kniceley-See (12.65, third) and Violet Vash (13.45, eighth) placed in the 100 meter dash.
The 4x100 meter relay of Katie Backus, Bongiorno, Haydn Henderson and Emma Kniceley-See placed third in 51.52 seconds.
Kniceley-See, Haydn Henderson, Selario and Kennedy Wolfe placed third in the 4x400 meter relay in 4:18.06.
Haydn Henderson took fourth in the 200 meter dash (26.55 seconds) and the long jump (16’5.75).
The shuttle hurdles relay of Carley Lattea, Tobrey, Edgell and Wolfe took fourth in a time of 1:10.59.
Dankiewicz (2:31.36) was fifth in the 800 meter run.
Backus, Kniceley-See, Vash and Bongiorno took fifth in the 4x200 relay in 1:52.87.
Tobrey (51.36 seconds) grabbed fifth in the 300 meter hurdles.
Edgell placed seventh in the 100 meter hurdles (17.72 seconds) and the long jump (15’5.5)
Backus (4’8) took eighth in the high jump.
