Bridgeport in Driver's Seat in 10-12-Year-Old State Little League Baseball Tournament

The Bridgeport Little League 10-12 All-Stars have taken care of business through their first two games in the West Virginia State Tournament in Barboursville, defeating Elkins, 15-0, on Saturday and Barboursville, 10-6, on Sunday.
The opener only took three innings because of the mercy rule, with Bridgeport scoring one run in the first, five in the second and six in the third.
That all backed a perfect game from Vance Wolfe, who struck out four batters in two innings, and Asher Sims, who fanned a pair in his one inning of work.
Offensively, Sims went 2-for-2 with two doubles, two runs and three RBIs.
Julian Belcastro, Owen Goodwin and Reed Cope all doubled as well.
Gabe Devono finished 2-for-2 with two runs and two RBIs and Wolfe also drove in a pair while scoring twice.
Ty Koon had two hits, two runs and two RBIs and Jacob G scored two runs.
Jacob Gissy’s grand slam in the top of the seventh was the difference in the extra-inning win over Barboursville.
Sutton Nicewarner picked up the win with 3 2/3 innings of dominant relief, striking out six and not allowing a run on two hits.
Sims added a double, a run and an RBI offensively and Goodwin was 2-for-3 with a run in the leadoff spot.
Liam Manganello scored two runs.
Bridgeport will play Mineral at 5 p.m. on Tuesday in the Herd Bracket.
The victor advances to the championship bracket and will play the second-place team from the Mountaineer Bracket in a state semifinal on Thursday at 8 p.m..
Tuesday’s loser will face either Logan, Barboursville, Central Greenbrier or Charleston Central on Wednesday at 8 p.m. for a semifinal berth against the Mountaineer Bracket winner, with that semifinal at 5 p.m. on Thursday.
The state championship game is Friday at 11 a.m. or 6 p.m.
