Bridgeport's Matthew Aman 9th, Woody Woodward 17th at West Virginia Amateur

By Michael Minnich on May 28, 2026

Matthew Aman, a Bridgeport High alum representing Bridgeport Country Club, finished in a tie for ninth at the 107th West Virginia Amateur Championship, played Sunday through Wednesday at two courses at The Greenbrier Resort.

Aman was in contention throughout, carding a 1-under 69 on Sunday to sit in a tie for sixth after Day 1.

Aman, playing the Meadows course from the gold tees, birdied the fifth, eighth and ninth holes with only a bogey on the second to make the turn at -2.

Another birdie on the 11th hole moved him to -3, but a double bogey on the next hole set him back.

A birdie on 15 and a bogey on 16 kept him under par.

On the classic Old White course on Monday, Aman started with five pars, then birdied the sixth hole and followed that with eight more pars before a bogey on 15 and three more pars left him even for the day at 70 and still 1-under for the tournament, good for a tie for sixth place.

Tuesday's play, back on the Meadows course, saw him birdie the second hole to get to -2 for the tournament before bogeys on the fifth and seventh holes set him back to even par.

Nine straight pars, a birdie on the 17th hole and a par on the 18th left him even for the day and still -1 for the tournament. maintaining a tie for sixth in the field.

The front nine proved difficult on Wednesday: A bogey on 2, a double bogey on 4 and bogeys on 5 and 6 set him back to 4-over par.

Aman did birdie the 12th hole, but bogeyed the 15th for the second time in as many rounds on Old White, leaving him at 75 for the round and with a final score of 280, 4 over par.

Woody Woodward, another Bridgeport alum representing Pete Dye Golf Club, tied for 17th with rounds of 75, 72, 71 and 72, highlighted by an eagle on Sunday on the 13th hole at Meadows.

Woodward finished with nine birdies and an eagle, one of 15 players to get into double digits in that total.

Carson Higginbotham, representing Bridgeport Country Club, tied for 28th at 15-over 295.

His best round came on Sunday, a 1-over 71, followed by a 73, 74 and 77.

Higginbotham had five birdies over his four rounds.

Caleb Osborne, from Pete Dye Golf Club, made the cut with opening rounds of 75 and 76 and finished in a time for 52nd at +37.

Noah Mullins, of Guyan Golf and Country Club, ran away for the win at -11, six strokes better than Tanner Vest.

Only four players finished under par: Mullens, Vest, Jack Michael (-3) and Christian Brand (-1).
